Common Errors to Avoid

•Wrong scan body for implant platform — always verify compatibility
•Scan body not fully seated — creates 50-200µm error in final prosthetic
•Saliva contamination during scanning — keep field dry
•Scanning too fast over scan bodies — slow down for precision

Pro Tips

Number your scan bodies with a marker to match implant positions on the lab Rx
Use a scan body seating verification radiograph for full-arch cases
Have backup scan bodies — they can strip or break during insertion

Digital Scanning Troubleshooting

Scan body not recognized by software

Verify scan body is correct brand/model for your implant. Ensure full 360° capture. Clean scan body surface. Update scanner software to latest version.

Mesh holes or artifacts around scan bodies

Slow down scan speed around scan bodies. Ensure field is dry. Re-scan the affected area. Use scanner's 'fill holes' or 'repair mesh' tool.

Bite registration doesn't align

Have patient bite into stable centric occlusion. Scan buccal corridor with teeth in contact. Use articulating paper to verify contacts before scanning.

Full arch scan drifts or distorts

Scan in segments and verify alignment at each step. Use anatomical landmarks as reference points. Consider a verification jig for 4+ implant cases.

STL file rejected by lab software

Check file size (should be 5-50MB for a full arch). Verify export settings match lab requirements. Try exporting in a different format (PLY, OBJ). Contact scanner support.

Scan body position doesn't match clinical reality

Verify scan body was fully seated during scanning. Take a verification radiograph. Re-scan with new scan body if damaged. Use a scan body seating jig.
