Identification Tips
Thread Pattern
The most distinctive feature. Look at thread shape (V, square, buttress), pitch (distance between threads), and whether it changes along the body.
Connection Type
External hex appears as a raised platform. Internal connections show as a recessed area. Tri-channel has 3 notches.
Collar Region
Micro-threads at the collar are distinctive (Straumann BLT, Zimmer TSV). Laser-Lok bands are unique to BioHorizons.
Body Taper
Parallel-walled implants (Brånemark) vs. tapered (most modern systems). The degree of taper varies by brand.
Apex Design
Self-tapping flutes, drill-like tips (NobelActive), or blunt/rounded ends. Bicon has a unique flat apex with fins.
